Sherwood Island State Park, Westport, Sat. 10/11. Today's Sherwood Island highlight for me was a belted kingfisher. I first saw it from the heron viewing platform on the west side of the park. It was out over Mill Pond, hovering in the air and then diving. Very cool. Later I saw it (same one, I'm assuming) over Mill Creek, just west of the model airplane field. It was following the creek, heading east. I didn't get to the beach area to see what was there today. Susan Thomsen
