Hello,
I'm new to the list. I'd like to know if the NovaTech K2R has any value to
the amateur radio or electronics community other than a 1PPS output and a
display of time. It appears I might have an opportunity to acquire this
clock in new condition.

Thanks,
Robin Midgett K4IDC

Hi

Going over to the NovaTech site, I see a 2R:

https://www.novatechautomation.com/products/kronos-satellite-clocks/kronos-series-2-specs

But I can’t find a K2R. That may just be my poor internet skills.

Assuming we are talking about a 2R, it’s an interesting device. It will give you a “canned” NTP server in addition to a cool looking clock and a pps output. There are a bunch of expansion card slots on it. They appear add various things to the mix. From a quick look, it’s not clear any of those add on’s are a “must have” sort of thing.

Like all similar boxes, you will need an outdoor antenna. If I was buying one, I’d want to dig a bit into the firmware update process. You don’t want an “orphan” device that only gets up dates once a decade ….

Robin it appears to be quite a nice clock for computers and such.
As you noticed already no 5 or 10 MHz out, strictly timecode and data
services.
There is an internal TCXO that might be able to be tapped into to get RF
out. (Unless its some strange frequency)A small project.
So it depends on the cost if it has value to you. If 5 or 10 MHz locked for
a reference is needed, then there are several alternatives on ebay for I
think $200 or less. My experiences with GPSDOs is they just simply work.
Dumb and simple.
Hope that helps.
