Hi All

another question!

I have an older Achilles inflatable with 3 sections of plywood floor, which
I want to re-finish.

I think varnish is foolish, am hoping that pettit easy poxy might be a good
idea.

Have thought of west system & painting the top & edges for UV  protection

Any ideas/methods?

Thanks

JE: and all.

A good coat of paint or so is much better than varnish for floor boards
being more durable. Interlux makes a one part non-skid that is quite
durable, and will help prevent crew going swimming when boarding. It will of
course pick up more dirt, but I think the non skid on those floor boards is
worth the wee bit of dirt. It is bad enough the inflatable wants to slide
out from under the less nimble without adding a slippery when wet surface. I
know we the boat owners never have a problem with this...only our guests!

I used to use Cetol on mine when I had a dink with wooden floors. Easy to
use, not too slippery, looked OK (for a deck).

To finish wood, the old formula of one part of pine tar, boiled linseed oil, turpentine and japan dryer is wonderful to work with.  Squeegee it on, pick out the leafs and let it dry. To re coat, just paint on more and if you want, sand first.  Smells great, is nice on the hands, low tech, easy to work and I have found it, non-slip.  The ratio is not critical and can be adjusted as you decide more of one or the other is better; it will turn dark brown over time, because of the linseed oil.  For a hard use area, such as the bottom of a dinghy, this is a great way to go because of the ease of maintenance.

Rudy:

This mixture was called slush, or slushing oil, and is what gives old tool
handles, and masts etc, that wonderful brown colour.
