Folks, I have a single 16,000 btu AC unit on my 36' trawler and would like
to put another unit in to cool/heat the forward cabin. My current pump is
a 500 gph one. Can I put a say 800 or 1000 gph on the current intake and
tee it to the two units? I have a "spare" through hull for the outflow
from the second unit.
Thanks,
David

Yes, you can. The 800 would be marginal, the 1000 would be good. I think the
actual number needed is about 250 gph per 1000 btu. A 1000 will work
provided the intake is large enough. I believe the 1000 pump has a 1 inch
intake, so the thru hull needs to match. I have this set up, 1000gph pump
for two 16K units. I have a 1in thru hull and used all 1" full flow fittings
from the thru hull, through the strainer (also needs to be 1" or bigger) to
the pump.
They also make a Y, specifically made for this purpose, that will go on the
outlet of the pump and insure both pumps get equal amounts of the water.
Pricey little bugger, but worth it IMO.
