Subject: Problem configuring collectionspace fcart tenant
To: talk@collectionspace.org
Hello CS community,
I am new to CollectionSpace and have successfully installed v4.4 it on a
Linode ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS instance. Was able to login and create a new
record using the demo user and password.
I am now trying to create/configure our own foundation collectionspace, but
am having difficulty getting past the 'ant undeploy deploy.'
I am following the instructions on 'creaging your new tenant' (
https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Creating+your+new+tenant#
Creatingyournewtenant-CreateandmodifytheUIlayerfiles
andfoldersforyournewtenant). I have tried the 'easy way' and the 'less-easy
way' but end up with the same problem. I can run all the 'mvn clean install
-DskipTests' on the ui, application, and services layers, but when I go to
do the 'ant undeploy deploy,' I get the pretty much the same error each
time:
BUILD FAILED
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/build.xml:283: The following error
occurred while executing this line:
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/services/build.xml:197: The following
error occurred while executing this line:
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/services/JaxRsServiceProvider/build.xml:163:
exec returned: 255
Attached is the logged output file of the 'ant undeploy deploy' command
before the final 'BUILD FAILED' error.
Would really appreciate if someone can tell me what might be happening. I
am also attaching the tenant.properties file I used. If you need any other
output/log information, would be happy to send along.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming Tsai

Ming,
Thank you for sending the log files. Looking at the antserv.log file, I see what might be a few problems:
In lines 4300-4308, CollectionSpace is reporting that it can find some of your tenant files. These are the files that you either created manually following the instructions on the wiki or created via the clone tenant script. I'd guess the files ended up somewhere they should be.
In line 4325, there is a similar problem. CollectionSpace is looking for but not finding the extensions/tsaifdn-profile-vocabularies.xml configuration file.
And finally, the error on line 4365 seems to indicate again some problem with your custom tenant configuration.
If you're willing and able, zip up (or tar and gzip) your entire /home/cspace/cspace_source directory and post it somewhere like Google Docs or DropBox. Better yet, push it up to GitHub so we can take a closer look at it.

Hi Richard,
Thanks very much for following up.
Yousuf got me up and running a while ago and it seems to be working fine.
Thanks again Yousuf! There seemed to be some installation bug with fcart
and he filed a ticket for that.
I'm basically in the midst of trying to figure out how to import my data
into cspace from an access database (exported to xml) that we have. I'd
like to add some fields to the collectionobject but to me it's not too
evident how that's done. So I've kind of stalled there. For example, for
the artworks concerned, it's important to note the voltage and frequency of
the electricity. I've attached a couple sample xml records that, if you
could give a quick look at, I'd like to import. Any tips on how to expedite
the process would be very much appreciated!
We're really looking forward to getting this system working for us and hope
it'll be the platform we can use for a while.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming Tsai

Your attachment may not have come through - if you forward it to me directly I will send it along to the talk list.
Re: voltage and frequency, are these values that fall into a short list of values (e.g. 1.5 volts, 12 volts, 110 volts, 120 volts, etc.) or is there a wide range that's more on a per-object basis?
If the former, you could use the existing Technical Attribute fields in Cataloging, adding the needed values to the lists in the dropdowns (one of the developers can point you to the documentation for that): e.g. Voltage to the field Technical Attribute, the standard values to the Measurement Field, and V or kV to the Units list.
If the measurements are not so neatly defined, you could use the dimensions fields to capture the data, by adding to the Dimension (e.g. Frequency), Method (e.g. Stroboscope), and Unit (e.g. Hz) lists.
Hope this helps,

Hi Megan,
Thanks again for your inputs in your last email.
I've been putting a fair amount of time into first adapting Cspace to our
needs by making small changes to options in the base-collectionobject.xml
and the fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml. However, not having any success
with getting a successful final build. I first run the 'mvn clean install
-DskipTests' at the toplevel 'applications' folder--which is successful.
Then I run the 'ant deploy_services_artifacts' in the 'JaxRsService
Provider' folder and it always fails with my changes. If I revert to the
original include statement, i get a successful final build.
In my master tenant file 'tsaifdn-tenant.xml' the only command I am
changing is:
original:
<include
src="base-collectionobject.xml,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml"
try 1:
<include
src="base-collectionobject.xml,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml,tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml"
try 2:
<include src="base-collectionobject.xml,tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml
,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,
extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml"
I've attached the outputs from the mvn & ant commands for try 1.
Am I missing something simple? Not defining my patch properly? or is it
simply not finding where my patch is?
Would be grateful to have some input.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming

Ming,
From the output files you sent, it looks like CollectionSpace can't find the "tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml" file. This file needs to be in your tenant's directory/folder which should be inside this source directory: ../application/tomcat-main/src/main/resources/tenants.
Therefore, if you've named your tenant folder "tsaifdn", the "tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml" file should be here: ../application/tomcat-main/src/main/resources/tenants/tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml.
It's also possible your "tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml" file is malformed -i.e., has an XML inconsistency. Unfortunately, my email sever blocked the two XML files you sent in your mail -it blocked "tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml" and "tsaifdn-tenant.xml".
If you zip up your entire "application" source folder and email it to me, I can take a look at it and see if I can spot any problems.

Thanks again for your inputs in your last email.
I've been putting a fair amount of time into first adapting Cspace to our needs by making small changes to options in the base-collectionobject.xml and the fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml. However, not having any success with getting a successful final build. I first run the 'mvn clean install -DskipTests' at the toplevel 'applications' folder--which is successful. Then I run the 'ant deploy_services_artifacts' in the 'JaxRsService Provider' folder and it always fails with my changes. If I revert to the original include statement, i get a successful final build.
In my master tenant file 'tsaifdn-tenant.xml' the only command I am changing is:
original:
<include src="base-collectionobject.xml,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml"
try 1:
<include src="base-collectionobject.xml,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml,tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml"
try 2:
<include src="base-collectionobject.xml,tsaifdn-collectionobject.xml,extensions/variablemedia-collectionobject.xml,
extensions/fineart-collectionobject.xml,extensions/fcart-profile-collectionobject.xml"
I've attached the outputs from the mvn & ant commands for try 1.
Am I missing something simple? Not defining my patch properly? or is it simply not finding where my patch is?
Would be grateful to have some input.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming

Hz) lists.
Hope this helps,
Megan

Hi Richard,
Thanks very much for following up.
Yousuf got me up and running a while ago and it seems to be working fine. Thanks again Yousuf! There seemed to be some installation bug with fcart and he filed a ticket for that.
I'm basically in the midst of trying to figure out how to import my data into cspace from an access database (exported to xml) that we have. I'd like to add some fields to the collectionobject but to me it's not too evident how that's done. So I've kind of stalled there. For example, for the artworks concerned, it's important to note the voltage and frequency of the electricity. I've attached a couple sample xml records that, if you could give a quick look at, I'd like to import. Any tips on how to expedite the process would be very much appreciated!
We're really looking forward to getting this system working for us and hope it'll be the platform we can use for a while.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming Tsai

Ming,
Since I haven't heard back from you, I'm just following up. Hopefully, no news is good news? Or perhaps you responded and I missed it? Either way, please get back to me when you have a chance.
Thanks,

Ming,
Thank you for sending the log files.

Hello CS community,
I am new to CollectionSpace and have successfully installed v4.4 it on a Linode ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS instance. Was able to login and create a new record using the demo user and password.
I am now trying to create/configure our own foundation collectionspace, but am having difficulty getting past the 'ant undeploy deploy.'
I am following the instructions on 'creaging your new tenant' (https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Creating+your+new+tenant#Creatingyournewtenant-CreateandmodifytheUIlayerfilesandfoldersforyournewtenant). I have tried the 'easy way' and the 'less-easy way' but end up with the same problem. I can run all the 'mvn clean install -DskipTests' on the ui, application, and services layers, but when I go to do the 'ant undeploy deploy,' I get the pretty much the same error each time:
BUILD FAILED
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/build.xml:283: The following error occurred while executing this line:
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/services/build.xml:197: The following error occurred while executing this line:
/home/cspace/cspace_source/services/services/JaxRsServiceProvider/build.xml:163: exec returned: 255
Attached is the logged output file of the 'ant undeploy deploy' command before the final 'BUILD FAILED' error.
Would really appreciate if someone can tell me what might be happening. I am also attaching the tenant.properties file I used. If you need any other output/log information, would be happy to send along.
Thanks & best wishes,
Ming Tsai
