This summers cruise aboard JOLIE chewed into my mechanical spares--and I am a
spares junkie-head gasket , injectors injector pump all aboard and John Deere
Dealers nearby in Sag Harbor NY. Most anything-I can build up or have at
hand.
Previously I posted about defouling props and diving/cutting and hacking-With
a Hooka onboard, cable cutters, wallboard knives and my favorite floating
knife-such fun.
But then I got an ear infection after defouling my prop-and on other
occassions a toothache, and once I crushed my arm between my boat and a
bridge, and then there was the time, twice now with the drill bit snapping and
the hole in my arm.
I carry a very comprehensive medical kit which I would like to round out with
your help--For example how many of us when confrounted with an injection in a
less than modern care facility would prefer to offer our own sealead
hypodermic rather than the one offered by the clinic?
Painkillers, antibiotics, oil of clove for teeth, that sort of thing. I know
realtive to the drugs that perscriptions onboard are necessary-but there is
alot of stiching set ups and butterflys, and cold/hot compresses.Plasma?
So can we create a list and suppliers-nothing illegal-I crossed the gulf
stream several years ago with an serious oil leak-compresses and hose clamps
and 3M5200 got me home-were I leaking as badly--I don't know how well it would
have turned out.
We as humans are the weakest element in Passagemaking--we often travel far
from mechanics and even futher from health care.Opinions/Advice

Mike specializes in doing medical kits for the Pacific NW fishing fleet. He
also does medical kits for persons doing world cruising, such as ourselves.
Prior to our passage to Japan, our group of three boats met with Mike to
discuss individual needs. He spent hours with us going through each drug and
offering advice. The medical kits he produced for us are very comprehensive,
and contain everything we could think of, including many prescription drugs.
I'm not sure if we were able to buy them because he contacted our doctors,
or if they were provided because of our captain's licenses.
The total cost was much less than expected.
I have no affiliation with Laffertys, other being a happy customer.
