Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsAs a resident of Casey Key just to the north and a long-term resident of the
area, I only warn anyone approaching the Higel Park docks to watch your
charts! There is some real shallow water (difficult to read) just to the
North of the Venice Yacht Club between the ICW and the channel that runs close
to the West side of the bay. I've seen many boats of all sizes go hard
aground at any tide. Best approach is to head a little South to where there
is a well marked channel that heads directly towards the Yacht Club (blue
roofed building) - you will make a hard turn to starboard when you arrive at
the channel that intersects the ICW at a little greater than a 90 degree
angle. Venice is a charming little village atmosphere with some nice
restaurants and shops. The Crow's Nest is a great restaurant (but touristy)
as someone mentioned but there are other little more reasonable local type
places with great food also. Watch your speed in the no wake or minimal wake
zones as the area just North and South of the Jettys is well patrolled.
ENJOY!
