Is Your Hypnotist a Miracle Worker, a "God," or a Fraud?
For several months, I experienced intense numbness in my feet and severe
pain in my glutes after walking just a few minutes, making each step feel
like walking with heavy cement boots. Following a spine surgery
decompression, which relieved the pressure on my lumbar spinal nerves, all
symptoms disappeared immediately. I was able to walk long distances with a
newfound ease and speed. The transformation felt miraculous, prompting me
to tell the surgeon he was "a God." However, it's important to remember
that the success of any medical procedure is never guaranteed, as
everyone’s response can vary significantly.
In the realm of healing and personal development, whether through
traditional medicine or alternative methods like hypnosis, there is often a
tendency to label the outcome as either "fraud" or "miracle." When a
prescription or surgery doesn't work, some might hastily consider it a
failure or even a scam. Conversely, when a treatment is successful, it's
sometimes hailed as a miraculous breakthrough, elevating the practitioner
to a near-divine status. This dichotomous thinking overlooks the
complexities of both the healing process and human nature.
The Nature of Hypnosis: Not a Magic Wand
Hypnosis, like any therapeutic intervention, is a tool that can aid in
personal transformation. However, it's important to recognize that it is
not a guaranteed or instantaneous solution every time. The effectiveness of
hypnosis can vary based on numerous factors:
-
Client Engagement and Follow-through: After a hypnosis session,
clients sometimes receive "homework"—specific practices or exercises such
as printed materials, recordings, or instruction in self-hypnosis to
reinforce the session's outcomes. The success of hypnosis largely depends
on the client's motivation, willingness, and ability to engage with these
follow-up tasks. Without this crucial follow-through, the benefits of
hypnosis may not be fully realized or be permanent.
-
Life Circumstances: High stress levels, significant life changes,
or emotional turmoil can impact how well an individual responds to
hypnosis. In such times, it might be necessary to vary the approach, take
additional sessions, or focus on stress management first. Or, to simply
repeat the hypnosis at a time the client is more focused.
-
Realistic Expectations and Patience: Some clients expect instant
results from hypnosis, like a magic cure. However, hypnosis is a process
that may require time, patience, and gradual integration of new habits and
thought patterns. Immediate and dramatic changes are possible, but not with
everyone every time.
-
Individual Differences: People vary in their responsiveness to
hypnosis. This variability can be due to personality traits, openness to
the experience, “trying too hard” or even physiological factors. As with
any therapeutic method, what works brilliantly for one person may require
adjustment or even a different approach for another.
Beyond the Black and White: A Balanced Perspective
Labeling hypnosis—or any therapeutic method—as either a complete fraud or a
miraculous cure-all is a simplistic view that fails to appreciate the
nuances of healing. The truth lies in the middle: hypnosis is a powerful
tool that can facilitate significant changes when used appropriately and
when clients are committed to the process. It is not a one-size-fits-all
solution but rather a collaborative process between the hypnotist and the
client. I tell my clients that we are a team, working together to achieve
success. The more the client follows my simple instructions and
participates according to my instructions, the more likely they will have
success.
Embracing the Process: The Path to Success
If you are considering hypnosis, approach it with an open mind and a
realistic understanding of what it can achieve by working together. Here
are some key points to consider:
-
Commitment: Engage fully with the instructions and process,
including any follow-up exercises or sessions. The more you invest yourself
and your time in your journey, the more you are likely to benefit.
-
Patience: Understand that change may take time. Be patient with
yourself and the process. Progress is often incremental, but it is
progress, nonetheless. It takes years to gain a lot of weight, so it will
take patience, motivation, determination, and persistence to lose it.
-
Openness: Be open to discussing any challenges or doubts with your
hypnotist. This feedback is invaluable in tailoring the sessions to your
specific needs. I am always available to answer your questions to help you
to maximize your success. Email: Romane@vanceromane.com
-
Empowerment: View hypnosis not as a passive experience where change
is done to you but as an active partnership. You are an integral part of
the process, and your willingness to engage deeply will significantly
enhance the outcomes.
A Pathway to Personal Growth

empowerment.
