Very much surprised by lack of Neotropic migrants at Bluff Point in Groton
this morning. About 125 Warblers of 10 identified species. 4 Scarlet
Tanagers, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, the first Golden-crowned Kinglets of
the season, and a Lincoln's Sparrow were some of the limited highlights. A
good push of Tree Swallows and Blue Jays though. I also did a nocturnal
count in our yard in Preston from 04:45 till 06:10 and had a remarkable
lack of birds. Total tally of migrants was 2 Canada Geese, 1 Hermit Thrush,
1 White-throated Sparrow, and 1 Sparrow species. The best yardbird however
was a surprise heard Greater Yellowlegs, out of place crossing a hilltop
inland in the first light of dawn.
