In Mexico we met a young man who had the Coast Guard impound his boat and
stop his trip, in Norfolk VA. He had needed Coast Guard assistance 3 times
since leaving Boston on his way to Key West. He was in a 30 foot sailboat,
along with his new girlfriend. After the third rescue they declared his
voyage unsafe and impounded his boat. Later that night he snuck into the CG
facility and stole his boat back, and left immediately, never to need the
services of the CG again! Best part of the story was that he was an
illegal, having entered this country after leaving his native England at age
16. This man is now a successful entrepreneur working out of Los Angeles.
His girl friend got off the boat in Key West and said he was the most horrid
excuse for a human being she had ever met. She still works in a bar in Key
West.
You meet the most colorful people while cruising!
