Hi there,
I was wondering what happened between 2014.03 and 2015.03 that means
clicking a file in the Mac Finder now renders a white/transparent preview,
whereas in the 2014 release things rendered visibly in grey.
It's not really a huge issue, but I was hoping the normals fix in 2015.03-1
would be it, but no. I haven't downloaded 2015.04 yet, but I don't expect it
to help.
I can provide examples of pre/post 2015.03 STL files if needed.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Nigel

Sorry, clarification - I meant clicking on an STL file generated by OpenSCAD.
Updated question text.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I have noticed a difference with STL
files generated with 2015.03.
When I pull the files into KeyShot for rendering they render as all black
shapes. I'm not sure if the faces are flipped or what. But they can be
fixed by repairing in NetFabb. This seems to happen with any/all STL files
I export.
This seems to only have started since I upgraded to 2015.03

This sounds like https://github.com/openscad/openscad/issues/1317#issuecomment-94298621
It probably uses the supplied normals to calculate the shading.
ciao,
Torsten.
Hi Torsten, I thought that as well, but I have downloaded the 2015.03-1
release where that is marked as fixed, but I still get the same STL output.

Nigel,
Sorry, I accidentally uploaded a broken build of 2015.03-1. The current one should work.
Btw., what software do you use to preview STLs?
-Marius
Ah ha, just downloaded and installed the latest 2015.03-1 (2015-04-21) and
all is good in the world again :)
The Mac finder is equivalent to the windows explorer and does a simple
preview built in. When you click on any file it recognises, it will generate
a little thumbnail.

@Torsten Thanks for the heads up, I did't realize there was a 2015.03-1.
That fixed my issue.
@Nigel I'm pretty sure OS X doesn't generate STL previews on it's own. But
it's possible you have installed Pleasant3D, or Cura previously that does
include a QuickLook plugin. It's also possible you have this installed (
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:376361) but I imagine you would remember
that because it takes a little work.

I do have cura installed. That must be it, I've not looked at STL files
without Cura being installed.
Thanks for the clarification :)

I use the Elektriktrick QL plugin and that seems to render everything fine
(at least I haven't noticed this particular issue)
