Norman, those are RAM error codes, Pages 6-59 to 6-61 in volume 1 of the
service manual refer to these.  There are other codes on the screen that
will tell you exactly which IC has died.  Artek has the manual.

I've had two with similar faults, replacing the IC indicated cured them.

Norman, you do not need to pay for the manuals.  They are posted at:

http://www.ko4bb.com/getsimple/index.php?id=manuals

Search for "hp 3561a" (do not type the quotation marks).

Hello Charles,
I found it. A lot of stuff to read first. Thx a lot. I think,  I am going to open  the HP3561a tomorrow. I am still hoping, maybe only a connection is a bit damaged during transportation. I got no Information about a dedicated Rom on the Screen. Maybe I hope it cant get contact to the entire Rom.
I dont want to send it back.there are not that much 3561a on the market. Without it the hp3048a is not complete. And I defnetly want to be able to measure phasenoise from -100 to -130dbc @10hz...were my fsiq7 is not be able to.
Thank you very much for your very nice welcome in this mailing list.
Best regards
Norman

Norman,

From the code 0 7 26, if there is just one faulty RAM IC you will see
down the bottom of the screen a RAM hex number from 0 to F. On page 6-59
in Volume 1 you will find a list of the IC numbers that correspond to
those RAM numbers.   However since you seem to have an additional Error
Code 31 and the full list of RAM numbers displayed it is likely to be
more than a simple one IC failure. 31 indicates RAM refresh test error,
if that means anything to you, I'm a bit lost frankly.  It might be
worth checking the board connections...

Good luck!

Dan

Hello !
Working 🙂🙃🙂🙃
I opened the device and am really impressed with the quality of the construction. 30 years old, no gram of dust! It looks like it has just left HP 😍. I have cleaned the contacts of all boards and want to briefly show you the result. I will use the service instructions to calibrate the device. The first milestone has been achieved. More luck than sense again. Many greetings and many thanks for your help.

If you are getting RAM refresh errors with a device of that vintage, check
the power supplies that feed the RAM chips. In those days, there was a
second supply voltage (-12V?) that was used only for refreshing the data.

I was working for HP in 1983 at the division that produced the 3561.
In those days everyone had "terminals" that were used to remotely
log in to shared computers.  These terminals had a bunch of PC
cards with gold plated edge-card connectors.  It was SOP that
one's terminal would stop working periodically, and the fix was
to simply unplug all the boards and then reseat them.  This
almost always worked.

If you got nearly 40 years out of your connectors without a
problem, you did well.  I too have a vintage 3561 that still
works fine.

Agree, but I will point out ARTEK does very high quality work, particularly
if you need better resolution schematics.
