There is a Black-capped Petrel at Hammonasset.  Perhaps on West Beach.  It is in need of transport to a rehab facility.  I'm up in the north today.

Speaking of shearwaters, there has all of a sudden been a very good
inshore (i.e. visible from land) showing of shearwaters along the
south shore of Long Island and off Cape May, NJ in recent days. That
could only increase the chances of a bird wandering into Long Island
Sound (hopefully healthy ones...).

Patrick Comins just reported that the GREAT SHEARWATER at Hammo has expired. Hopefully it can be collected as a specimen (and cause of death determined) by Yale Peabody or by UConn.

Similarly, a Brown Booby hanging out at a Long Is., NY, tern colony the past couple days also died yesterday.
