IMPRACTICAL MAGIC

Hosted by Amy Reeves and the Tacoma Metal Arts Center

Curated by Matthew Coté and Petra Winnwalker

Join us for our reception at Tacoma Metal Arts Center: 3833 6th Ave* on
October 17, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:30 PM for a night of wine, food, and
remarkable work from northwest jewelers and metal artists.*

"Would someone wear this?” As metalsmiths, we are often forced to create
work in relationship to wearbility, exchanging creative impulse for
practicality.  Impractical Magic seeks to interrogate the indelible
boundaries of what can be worn and, in doing so, illuminate the
highly-spiritual process underlying jewelry and metal arts.  This line of
questioning is especially critical today as advances in technology continue
to alter and transform the jewelry and metal arts, for better or
worse. Impractical
Magic
holds that we, as artists, must similarly push beyond preconceived
definitions of our craft. Impratical Magic features work that prowls the
deep, glittery crevasses of our field, encompasses the magic that results
from deep technical understanding, and exhibits a willingness to expand
beyond one’s craft.
