Simple Green does wash off our spider residue, would rather clean up after them than spray.  If we were in a closed space it might make a difference but in the open, cleaning the boat seems to solve or keeping them to a minimum.  I have found they like the undisturbed area under the rubrail, circling the boat in dinghy washing hull found every couple of feet a spider, after that cleaning they were greatly reduced.
