Many hummer visits, mostly single imm. males to feeders 9/15/24 - 10/2/23
Some earlier were 2 chasing & defending feeder, but most lately single
frequent visits. Especially lengthy stays during recent rains from Ophelia
cold and dreadful, visiting feeder under deck umbrella out of the rain!
This is latest ever seen, recent 2 years September 18 last day.
What is going on???
Oct. 5th is my historical last date.

Hi all,
Looking back at my ebird late dates for hummers at our Stratford yard, in most recent years we've had a Ruby-throat linger into early October, with our latest dates being 10/24/2014 and 10/20/2022.
I suspect with the unusually warm weather this fall, and many flowers still in bloom, plus feeders, the little winged jewels are lingering in numbers around the state and region.
AND, October is a peak time to look for unusual rare hummers such as Rufous, Black-chinned, and Caliope Hummingbirds. Often correct identification as to species hinges on obtaining good quality photographs.

Greetings,
As of this morning 10/4/23 I still have two Ruby-throated Hummingbirds who appeared at first light to feed on flowering native perennials - especially Trumpet Honeysuckle and a few remaining Cardinal Flowers; a Hosta that bloomed a second time, flowering annuals in containers (Salvias, Scarlet Sages, Fuschia, Cardinal Climber), even (still) flowering tomato plants. I have one feeder though their interest has mostly been flowers this season.
