birds that I saw on Monday, 10/15 at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme were:
1 field sparrow, 1 adult WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, 5 white-throated sparrows
(both adult and imm.), 20+ song sparrows, 10 chipping sparrows, 8 juncos, 1
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 1 ruby-crowned kinglet, 1 blue-gray gnatcatcher, 50+
yellow-rumped warblers, 2 palm warblers, 1 common yellowthroat (m.), 2 eastern phoebes,
3 red-bellied woodpeckers, 4 downy woodpeckers, 1 possible pine warbler.
Many of the birds were in the trees, bushes and thickets located in the north
end of the parking lot. This area forms the buffer between the parking lot
and the marshes. Most of the sparrows and juncos were on the ground in and
about the picnic area (in the northwest corner of the parking lot) and the white
pines in the picnic area. There were also some mixed flocks along the entry
road both on the ground and in the thickets .
Not much in the marshes. 6 snowy egrets and 3 great blue herons, but only
one great egret. There were also 10 greater yellowlegs.
