Henry- Have the skipper check all of the electrical cable connections to the controls, both in the engineroom and on deck. The ZF units have Deutsch-type multi-pin connectors with large protective boots. Sometimes the connectors are not completely snapped home before the boots are pushed up to cover the connectors. Also tight cable-tying and routing of the cables from the connectors, while appearing shipshape, can put lateral forces on the connectors and break or cause intermittent connectivity.
