Hi,

My husband is bringing our "new to us" boat - a 48' tollycraft from Florida
to Knoxville.  They are on their way to Mobile - trying to get out of  Florida
before our 90 days is over - and the depth finder has broken.  Does  anyone
know of a good boatyard that could haul out our boat and replace  transducer in
the Mobile or further north area?

Thanks for any help,

Karen

Instead of hauling the boat, find a transducer that can be installed inside
the hull..if in fact the transducer is bad.  If it is the head or display,
replace only that.  Would save a lot of time and money to go either way.

Karen, We have been in the Mobile area for about 4 months, so have been in a
three local boat yards.  The gold standard is Dog River Marina and Boatyard.
They are at the entrance to Dog River in Mobile Bay.  You have to go past it
if you are going up the Tenn-Tom.  We plan to stop there on the way up from
Orange Beach for a day to finish up whatever has shaken loose by then.  They
are very good at helping out cruisers in a tight spot:

Phone number is 251-471-5449.

A second boat yard that I have used and like is Saunders Yachtworks further
south in Orange Beach.  800.392.2487.

I agree with Larry about using an in-hull transducer, aka puck transducer.
I have a Garmin - I'm sure there are others -  puck transducer and it works
very well for depths of a few hundred feet (not sure how many, mine has not
been in more than 40' so far.)  The Garmin is under $100.

Good Luck and let us all know how it works out.
