I am thinking of purchasing a Garmin 162 GPS with internal antenna.
Does anyone have experience with using a internal antenna GPS under
binimi top ?
I use my Garmin 162 there (under a bimini top) every time I go out on a
decent day; if not there, from the interior steering station. Works just
fine, both places. Never had a problem. I have it wired for power and NMEA
in both locations.
If you do purchase it, make sure you get the data cable to go with it so
you can update the internal software and transfer waypoint/route data to
the GPS from a computer. That's much easier than trying to create waypoints
and routes on the GPS itself (it can be done, but it is tedious).

My Garmin 12 lives on a mount inside my hard-top pilot house and works with
no problems. It is aimed through the windshield, and always picks up the
signals from at least 6 satellites. Since it also works in the car, I would
expect it to function under a bimini top as long as it is aligned properly.
