Greetings, from Santa Clarita Public Library System.

My name is Jazz McCulley and I am the Adult Librarian at Old Town Newhall Branch in Northern LA County.
I have just received the introductory email since recently becoming a member, and it has prompted me to start a conversation which possibly might get a response.
I hope my participation "helps create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive community" and I get to digitally meet like-minded library professionals!

So I think an easy to discuss subject would be: Summer Reading Program Plans.

-Did you choose CSLP's "Unearth A Story" or iRead's "Plant a Seed, Read". Or did your library choose another?
-My answer: My system chose CSLP's "Unearth a Story". I am super excited! Bulked up some adult collection materials, have submitted program proposals, working on purchase orders.
-Which program are you most excited for?
-My Answer: It's hard to choose, but I am really excited to work on the Sensory Room program. My patrons with disabilities are going to be touring our community room to entice their senses. If you ask, I do not mind sharing all the idea for the sensory bins. Hint: They are super fun!
-Which program is going to be the most time consuming planning wise?
-While a movie night is generally not very step heavy, since it is a hefty sum to buy showing rights... I do have to keep in mind all service teams put money into it so I must make sure they are also happy with how it performs. So while it is not time-consuming per-se, I do feel the need to be extra mindful.

Thanks Jazz for getting a discussion going, it's always hard to get started with a new group so I appreciate the initiative!

I'm an adult services librarian with Glendora Public Library, but we're all pretty much generalists here especially in summer!

We chose to go with Plant a Seed, Read, and our summer program is shaping up nicely. Lots of programs/activities to highlight nature and science to go along with the reading.
Hard to choose a program I'm most excited for, but we are doing quite a few new things this year, and the staff is excited about new opportunities to mix things up a bit. I'm especially happy to use the summer months to kick off a new teen astronomy club.
Most time consuming will possibly be a healthy drinks program we'll be running alongside the free lunches program our school district offers. This will run the entire summer, but we are dividing it up between all of our staff, so it shouldn't be too much work for any one person. It's also an opportunity to use our Charlie Cart in a pretty visible way.
Related to your movie night, but not summer programming, we have a movie night coming up to celebrate National Library Week and I'm really excited about it. The licensing fees are high, so I totally understand being extra concerned about how the program performs, but who can resist the Princess Bride? It's inconceivable! (We are setting up a "red carpet" photo op with props- including a stuffed ROUS!)
