With all the conversation about the use of computers on boats and the other
thread of Internet access via cell phones a new question arises.
Many of the listees have websites that they can update so friends and family
can follow those who would have a cruising lifestyle. We plan to start on
the circle cruise early next year and would like to have our own website much
like Jim Baumgart just reported. It sounds like a good idea to have a URL
that is your boat name. I figure I can learn to manipulate the site on my
own but would like some help on how to, where to, how big to, start the site.
I have found some places that offer a free website but guess that the free
space turns out to be to small quickly. Most of the free sites also require
that some advertising be allowed for the free. It seems we have some real
pro's out there so I would appreciate a jump start for the web page. I have
no idea what something like this may cost but surely it would be something I
could afford. We don't leave for another 11 months and I thought if I start
on the web page now I could practice from now until we leave. Do it either
way you want, directly to me, or via the list, if to me I will compose a
review and post it to the list.
Thanks in advance for the help

Lee and others,
Most Internet Service Providers (at least the competitive ones) generally
provide about 5 MB of free space - some provide more - when you signup with
them. I've found that some folks were really focused on the internet part
and forgot about the free space. If you have an ISP already, check with
them. If not, be sure that's part of the deal. Most of them will provide
more for a small fee (my outfit charges US$5/mo for an additional 5MB of
space).
In terms of learning Hyper Text Markup Language, try the following two
sites, which both have useful tutorials:
