Long-billed Dowitcher and Identification

Hi all-

On Monday, I found an adult Long-billed Dowitcher at Sasco Hill Beach in
Fairfield.

Unfortunately, the bird did not stay the night. Four other people were able
to see it that evening.

Dowitcher identification is a large challenge, one of the most difficult ID
complexes in North America.

In my eBird report I did a full write-up about the identification.

I am sharing it here in case it's useful for anyone wishing to brush up on
dowitcher ID.

I would also suggest reviewing Julian Hough's excellent article from a
while back. I do not know which edition of the CT Warbler it was published
in as I haven't seen it in a while.
