Very interesting to see the pictures of the table that Bob Lowe has posted,
and to consider the points he's made. One of the biggest issues for me was
the position of the table relative to the seat. We will ultimately replace
the ugly, cheap-looking, curling-laminate table that has high fiddles, with
one more to our liking. But in the meantime, we do like to be able to use
the table for computer work, dining, talking, and sleeping. Clever Hans
bought the double wide slider for "the double wide helm seat," as the
catalog describes it. He mounted that on the bottom of the table, and put it
back on the outrageously sturdy hi-lo pillar. The table top now slides
diagonally out and away from the corner of the "L" of the settee, making it
easier to get in and out, and in a low position making it more like a coffee
table. We will likely put the same double wide slider on our new table top
when we get it, because it makes it quite comfortable now. Both West Marine
and Boat US have these for under $200.

I designed a table for a 36' Grand Banks that had rounded edges and was
higher and over the seat by about 3".
You can see it at http://www.mv-dreamer.com/PMarticle.pdf . Nothing
special
about the table, made with Corian top and teak trim. It was made to mount
on the existing table stands with a little stowage area underneath.
