Looking for Oil Temp Switch for Perkins 6-354

I need a high temperature switch for my Perkins 6-354 engine which sets off
and alarm and turns on a panel light in an oil high temp situation.  The
switch is located on a flat area just front of the oil filter.  The old one
has no numbers on it except 140c which I assume is the temperature rating.
It has 5/8 - 18 straight threads, not tapered.  I have tried local Perkins
dealers who say it is not a Perkins part.  Any help with where to look would
be appreciated.

It is probably made by the company that makes your gauges. If you can find a
good dealer for your brand of gauges, that number will probably mean
something. I had to replace an oil presure gauge sender (and I realize this
isn't the sender your talking about) that just had numbers like "1a-d" or
some such thing. (those aren't the numbers but I think it was a 3
number/letter sequence) I thought it couldn't possible be a part number, but
it was. My gauges are VDO and Lewis Marine in Ft Lauderdale had the senders
in stock.

Thanks Brent for the post.  My gauges are also VDO and VDO does use a 3
(sometimes 4) number to ID their senders and switches.  The part I have is
not a VDO part and it turns out that any manufacturer can make a switch that
works with a VDO panel because it only closes the circuit to activate a
buzzer and light.  I checked directly with VDO and they have switches that
would work but with smaller threads are mostly tapered.

Another point which may be of interest to some on the list is the VDO
catalog has a note not to use Teflon tape on the tapered treads because the
treads are used as the ground.
