over marsh grass as you look towards white buildings (far left) w/
dirt piles to the right, on opposite side of river.
12/18/13 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- 4:45 PM; Snowy Owl
flying right at me and twenty feet over my head! Snowy banked and
landed on gable end of eastern most building, in front of Nature
Center. Still there when Ranger kicked me out!

12/19/13 - Bridgeport, Seaside Park -- 2 Northern Gannet near shore,
just to the west of the mouth of Bridgeport Harbor.
Stratford, Sikorsky Airport -- A Lapland Longspur (among 24 Horned
Lark).
Out in the marsh -- previously mentioned Snowy Owl and the
Rough-legged Hawk, shortly after 11 AM. The Rough-legged was hunting
very close to the causeway which goes out through the marshes. It
crossed the causeway several times, only 15' in the air.

marsh, as viewed from Oak Bluff. Two kiteboarders in main marsh
channel just flushed one some distance.

(possibly juvenile) SNOWY OWL, north from the Cedar Island observation
platform on a long log (sometimes harassed by a Harrier). Also on the
main parking area near the Nature Center, 1 SNOW BUNTING and 1 LAPLAND
LONGSPUR (mixed in with a flock of Horned Larks).

12/19/13 - Milford, Merwins Point -- Harlequin Duck female seen well
with Phil Asprelli when the duck came swimming into the cove from the
west, then landed on the beach in front of the Mallards where she
began preening herself. Also 12 Purple Sandpipers.
Stratford, Short Beach -- 1:25 to 4:00; 80 Snow Bunting, 4 Lapland
Longspur. Light morph Rough-legged Hawk seen well with Don Morgan.
Eurasian Wigeon just off the beach.
Oak Bluff Ave -- Drake Pintail in a pool on airport property, 2 Snowy
Owls in the marsh when looking north. (Thanks Frank!) I turned left
onto the causeway across the marsh and there was a hovering dark
morph Rough-legged Hawk on the right, before the airport entrance.

Longspurs.
Stratford -- 1 Dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk off the causeway south of
the airport. 1 Light-morph Rough-legged Hawk at the dump by Short
Beach.
