Bob Davies,
My last boat, a 30' Luhrs sport fisher, was built in 1966, a year after
your Taid's Inn was built. Does your definition of "classic" fit her
as well, or can only wooden boats be described as "classic"? What is
it, age, condition,
or...?
Along with some excellent ones, I've seen some awful looking old wooden
boats and some well maintained old fibreglass (translation: "plastic or
tupperware") boats. If "classic" then means a well maintained boat and
not just any old wooden one, I should think that we could apply that
term to an old glass or metal boat that is lovingly maintained. The
Queen Mary is a classic, right?
I've heard that restored 25 year old cars are considered "classics".
Maybe my 1978 lovingly maintained Mogambo "tupperware" boat is a
"classic" then too? No, guess not, when you consider "that the
designers insisted on adding teak to hide the fact that they weren't
real boats. <VBG>"
The most important thing, I think, is that though we all see things a
little differently, we still have great fun pursuing our dreams, right?!
Have fun...
