My trawler came with a non-working Bilge Buster BDC-400 installed. It was not
high on my list so I ignored it as I finished other jobs on the boat. Today I
finally removed it and called QuantumAir.
My unit it turn out was purchased in 2002; I bought the boat in November of
2004 and it was not working at that time. It worked for maybe two years at
best.
In the last three years the company was sold to VR Industries They use the
same name and telephone number, but will not support or repair any of the
units older than about 2004. Their representative told me that they changed
the board and design.
I decided to open up the unit and was shocked to find a tiny circuit board, a
couple of power transistors, a voltage regulator and transformer and a handful
of resistors and caps. I have no idea how you get the units cost out of such a
small number of parts.
The board was not coated to protect it in a marine environment.
They did offer 20% off a new unit as a "previous customer" discount.
I may try to get it working by changing some parts, but I am not sure it is
worth the effort, as I have a larger room size unit if I ever need it.
