Very similar to a 46' designed by Ed Monk for his own use.
This is an exceptionally well built wooden yacht, double planked honduran
mahogany on seasoned white oak frames, all bronze fastened. No caulking.
Tight
seamed. Bright mahogany transom. Teak decks, narrow vertical grain. Teak
trim.
Cabin tops, windshield and cabin trunk forward face are fiberglassed, or
epoxy
and glass and epoxy painted. New anchor platform and electric windlass with
all chain rode and 65# CQR.
LOA: 48' Draft: 4' Beam: 14'6 Displacement: 48,000 (actual
weight is 39,000)
Can be easily hauled with a 30 ton Travel Lift with four straps
This boat has a wonderful feeling with its rich mahogany interior.
Workmanship
throughout is excellent. This classic boat also has a very good feel.
Comfortable roll moment with a softened chine. The flattened after sections
allow speeds faster than hull speed. Hull is semi-displacement style.
Nimphius Boatworks was considered one of the finest wooden boat building
yards
in the US. They are still in business. Ferdinand "Red" Nimphius was highly
regarded and was featured in Wooden Boat magazine several times.
