John:

Before deciding on which unit to install I suggest you consider the Gulf
Coast filter.  Check out their website at gulfcoastfilters.com.  I
installed one several years ago, and have been most impressed with the
job it did on cleaning up our fuel and tanks.  I followed the layout
recommended by Capt'n Wil (see the T&T archives), but have since
upgraded the pump to the Oberdorfer bronze gear recommended by Gulf
Coast for tankage of 500 gallons or more (120 gal/hr; we wore out the
little 60 gal/hr Walbro recommended by Capt'n Wil).  Because of height
limitations in our engine room we installed the whole system on a
bracket that allows the filter body to be tilted so that the element can
be removed/replaced.  My recollection of the engine room in your 44
suggests height limitations may not be an issue, but if it is, the
bracket installation is an easy solution.
