9/10 New Haven, Lighthouse Point hawk watch

Hey, anybody can hawk watch when there are hawks! Days like today take, what, lack anything better to do?

Anyway, only 8 raptors to show for the effort - 5 Osprey, 1 N. Harrier (imm) and 2 Sharp--shinned Hakws.

As usual there were other things moving despite conditions that were less than ideal. The fact that we had wind out of the northeast, even though we were kind of socked in, contributed to a modest flight. The follwoing birds were those I considered passage migrants

2 Great Blue Herons; 18 D-c Cormorants; 1 Chimney Swift; 10 Purple Martin, (a flock calling as it flapped and glided its was through patches of fog); 80 Tree Swallows; 2 Barn Swallows; 250 Bobolink (you have to keep moving despite the weather to make it to Argentina!); Red-winged Blackbird, 7.

There were 2 Merlins hanging around all day.
