Last year, California Humanities’ Library Innovation Lab: Exploring New Ways of Engaging Immigrant Communities program, provided an opportunity for 10 library programmers to develop programs in partnership with immigrant communities. Michelle Gordon will give an overview of her work on this project, which resulted in a live Story Jam event at a downtown theater, a communal potluck and an art show, in partnership with local community organizations! Create a flexible pop-up space where partner organizations can provide drop-in, direct outreach to patrons in need, from tenant help to flu vaccines to mental health services. Bell – County of Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning A spotlight on the unique Community/County partnership and creative placemaking techniques that defied negative stereotypes to produce “A Paseo Through Time in Florence-Firestone,” the first-ever published history book (pub date 2/21/18) of this diverse community in South Central LA.
