I am looking at a KVH TV3 satellite TV antenna for my 42 Grand Banks.   I have all my answers except one... Antenna placement.. My trawler has a tall aluminum mast.  I will never be able to mount the satellite TV antenna with a 100% clear view of the sky as the boat swings 360 degrees...  That is, at some point the 3 to 4 inch diameter mast will be in line with the antenna and the satellite.  Do you think that will cause me to have an outage of signal when that happens?  Should I mount the antenna closer or further away from the mast or does it make any difference?  I would think sailboats would have this same issue... Jim, we paid $$$ for an Intellian dome. It is mounted just below our Garmin radar dome. Mostly, it gives us good reception. However, if the satellite signal (240 degrees) is behind the boat, the radar dome and mast blocks the signal. It doesn’t happen often but it’s a pain when it does. Do I want a portside tie or do I need to turn around and tie up on my starboard side? Not exactly what I need to add to my docking plan. So, yes, it does matter. It’s minor but it happens.
