"Different systems for different folks, both work and have worked in the
past. Or get a sailboat".

This recent quote is from a very experienced Nordhavn employee. So in fact
it's a bit like if your grandmother had testicles, she would be your
grandfather - sort of thing.
As some posts point out that a problem with a main going out will usually be
fuel related, or something around your prop. Regarding fuel my attitude is
in life is carefully being vigilent about two things. Firstly I will try
stopping anybody poking a pointy stick in my eye, and secondly no one will
put bad fuel in my tanks.
Re the prop I would imagine that the problem would turn out to be
something such as rope/net wrapped around it so badly that it fuses/melts
and brings that great lumbering monster to a standstill.
I have line cutters installed (Spurs) and am considering swapping these for
a new design that has serated blades at next haul. Dont know whether they
are any better, but they seem like they would be. I will be spending 3
months soon cruising through Indonesia, and this has to be the worlds
capital for fishing therefore lots of thingos floating in the water. However
as this is an Archipelago of 17,500 Islands I will be so close to an
anchorage where I can get below with a knife (you know, the one with a
serated blade) that the wing will hardly get warm. Going across the North
Indian ocean later is another problem using the wing, but hell I'm retired,
what's the hurry.
Good to see that PUP has sprung back to life after a Viagra type boost, and
there are still some crusty old mariners out there still pushing their time
honored barrows.
Regards,
