USRP N200: All leds off

Dear all,

My brand new N200 seems to be dead. All front panel lights are off. Network
lights are off either in N200 or in the laptop (Lenovo T530 with 1 Gbit eth
iface). Power cycling with S2 pressed doesn't help. The only thing that is
functional is the fan. I use the provided power supply and the ethernet
cable connected straight to the laptop.
Do you have maybe any clues on what is wrong? Your help will be appreciated.

Hello Leszek Erbel:

There are some things you can do to diagnose your new N200.

The User Manual page for the N200/N210 is at the link below.
http://files.ettus.com/manual/page_usrp2.html

Information about the LEDs can be found in the User Manual at the link
below.
http://files.ettus.com/manual/page_usrp2.html#usrp2_hw_leds

You can try booting your N210 into Safe Mode. More information about Safe
Mode can be found at the link below.
http://files.ettus.com/manual/page_usrp2.html#usrp2_loadflash_brick

Listed below are some specific things that you can check to verify whether
or not your N200/N210 hardware is working correctly. If the answer to any
of the questions listed below is "no", then there is probably a hardware
problem.

  • Does the fan spin?

  • Do any of the LEDs on the front panel light up? (
    http://files.ettus.com/manual/page_usrp2.html#usrp2_hw_leds)

  • Are the lights on the Ethernet port flashing, when the N210 is connected
to the host computer? Are any lights flashing on the host computer's
Ethernet port? Note that the N200/N210 must be connected to a 1 Gigabit
Ethernet port. A 100 Mbps Ethernet port will not work.

  • Check the voltages on these connectors on the motherboard: J105 (should
be 2.5V); J104 (should be 3.3V); J107 (should be 1.2V). Do you see the
    correct voltages on those connectors?

  • Does the LED at D203 on the motherboard light up? If you're holding the
N210 such that the front panel is facing you, then D203 is located near the
    left connector for the daughterboard.

Please let me know the results of these tests, and we'll go from there.

Hello Neel,

Thank you very much for your comprehensive statement.
My USRP was bought through NI. So a few days ago I contacted them. Based on
symptoms they diagnosed a failure. I also checked voltages and 1.2V was
missing. My N200 was sent to repair from which I hope it will return soon.

Kind regards
Leszek
