If they are a nice adult male in good condition, we are gathering them for the Birdcraft Museum.

Thanks

I have a neighbor who just asked me what to do with a dead hummingbird. I told him to freeze it and wait for me to give him an address to send it.
My only issue is, I need the an address to give to him. I remember reading about a similar event. If anyone has any info, I would love to hear from you.

I will add a cautionary note.  Years ago when West Nile virus was first spreading in the US, I saw a house sparrow have a generalized convulsion and die.  I froze the critter and tried to get someone interested in looking at this bird's brain but no public health person was willing.  Subsequently house sparrow have proven to be the principal carriers of this now nationwide virus.  Fortunately, few people who are infected die, or even get sick.  Ask, why did your bird die?

At one time the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station was collecting birds with West Nile Virus for research.  You can check and see if they still are doing so.  There is an Ag Station in both Windsor and in New Haven
