For any EARLY birds coming down the rivers in late summer, you may be
interested
in the following two scheduled lock closures.

Kentucky Lock at Mile 22.4 on Tennessee River
Closed from August 15 to September 7, 2006

[Note: This is the first lock on the Tennessee River. But by traveling up
the Ohio River a few more miles, you can go through Barkley Lock and into
the Cumberland River and over to Green Turtle Bay. Be aware that with
Kentucky
Lock being closed, you may encounter a higher-than-normal amount of
commercial
traffic going through Barkley Lock.]

Coffeeville Lock at Mile No. 116.6 on the Tombigbee River
Closed from August 1 to 14, 2006

[Note: This is the last lock heading south for Mobile. Closing dates are
in the middle of hurricane season, so I hope no one was planning to head
for the Gulf then. If so, it is probably good that the lock is going to
be closed, keeping you on the rivers a little longer!]
