Who's in YOUR top 10?

And just for yuks...

Birdwatchingdaily magazine surveyed visitors about what 10 U.S. species they most wanted to see. The 10 most wanted:

  1. blue footed booby
  2. green jay
  3. ferruignous pygmy owl
  4. kirland's warbler
  5. spotted owl
  6. atlantic puffin
  7. gyrfalcon
  8. elf owl
  9. whooping crane
  10. california condor

Many owl fans out there, it seems.

In any case, this begs the question - who'd be on your top 10 list? I'll start:

In no particular order:
california condor
blue footed booby
connecticut warbler
cerulean warbler
red-faced warbler
painted redstart
black throated gray warbler
golden eagle
greater roadrunner
clark's nutcracker

I know at least one person whose list will include pacific golden plover,
Jonah Cohen

Tough decisions.
Top 10 US most wanted list:

Kirtland's Warbler
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Three-toed Woodpecker
Gray-crowned Rosy Finch
Brown-capped Rosy Finch
Black Rosy Finch
Whooping Crane
Roadrunner
Golden-winged Warbler
Painted Bunting

I had to weed out 20+ others.  I also realized that the US list includes birds not in the No. Amer guides - Hawaii, territories, etc. - so many birds to choose from!  If the rosy finches are lumped together then I would add Green Jay and Steller's or Spectacled Sea Eider, and still get all the rosies.  Other thoughts:  if I get anywhere in the vicinity of these, then I'll be likely to get many of the others on the larger lists.  Clark's Nutcracker was one of my strong runner-ups.  Thanks Jonah for the fun focus.  It's good to have priorities.
Dan

P.S.  Jonah if you want help getting Cerulean, I'll be happy to go to Hartman Park in Lyme with you.  I got my life bird there in May and they were recently still being reported.

Ignoring pelagics entirely, as they constitute a significant lacuna in my
life list, and non-N.A. vagrants, many of which are common elsewhere,
without too much thought or order:

Black Swift
Flammulated Owl
Kirtland's Warbler
Whooping Crane
Gyrfalcon
Spectacled Eider
Yellow-billed Loon
Red-cockaded Woodpecker
Northern Hawk-Owl
Smith's Longspur
