Graylag Observations

I observed the Wallingford graylag goose at Mackenzie Reservoir on Saturday afternoon, 2/29/09.  It was near a small group of Canada geese, four of which had leg bands.  I recorded the numbers of 2 of them, and checked them on the band reports link on the USGS website, which returned the following info:
#0978-51565 was banded in CT on 6/28/02
#0978-51603 was banded in CT on 6/27/02

Another birder observed tag # _038-99854, but that number is missing a digit.  If assumed to be 1 (0 didn't work and 2 was too high), that bird was banded in CT on 6/25/08.

As part of a behavior experiment, someone showed a piece of bread to the birds, which immediately attracted the attention of several "wild" ring-billed gulls and some of the Canada geese.  Goose #0978-51603 was particularly aggressive in approaching the person with the food.  The graylag goose did not appear interested, and even swam away when the person holding the food approached it.

Not sure what to make of these observations.  Is the graylag really "associated" with these apparent CT residents, or perhaps the small form Canada geese that were also present elsewhere in the reservoir?  Was it simply not hungry, or had it learned to be wary of humans (from captive experience or by being wild)?

Regardless, it is an attractive bird and was easier to view than the flocks of greylags that I saw in Sweden last year.  It was worth the easy afternoon drive to Wallingford for me.
