08/12/12: In Westbrook/Clinton: a pleasant 3 hour paddle through the marsh
and out to the sound to visit Menunketesuk Island yielded a number of
interesting species. Highlights included: 12 LITTLE BLUE HERON (10 adults,
one juvenile, and one mottled subadult), 2 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, 4
Glossy Ibis, 1 Wild Turkey, 400 Tree Swallow, 50 Barn Swallow, 6 Saltmarsh
Sparrow, and (only) one Chimney Swift, in the marsh. Out at the island,
there were 400 Common Tern (with a nice showing of juveniles), 15 Least
Tern, 5 Laughing Gull, 20 Ruddy Turnstone, 15 Semipalmated Plover, 8
Black-bellied Plover, and 15 American Oystercatchers (including several
