Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsI take issue with the comments regarding West Epoxy, and the concerns raised in using their pumps.
I have a 42' 1986 Covey Island trawler built in wood with West Epoxy and awlgrip paint. It weighs the same as a 42' krogen, with no ballast and three layers of marine 3/8" covered with fiberglass. There is absolutely no movement in the hull or house regardless of sea state, and no water permeation after 20 years. Please also visit www.coveyisland.com and the West website, before making conclusions regarding epoxy. When working with epoxy in the hot Carolina summer, you do need to use 206 slow hardener...but there is a difference between setting up and curing...look at the custom builders and see what they are using and why.
The pumps have worked fine for me...with an epoxy boat, everything gets coated...and with Awlgrip...no ICW mustache..

The epoxy pumps are ok and easy but you are never sure. I use small paper
cups or for very small jobs I use equine syringes available at Tractor Supply.
If you are in a big fat hurry use WEST or East. 5 minute epoxies are unsuitable for marine use. They
are weak and very brittle.
