Hi Everyone
The 29th Annual Dunrobin,On.-Breckenridge, P.Q. Christmas Bird Count took place on January 2, 2010. Weather conditions were mainly overcast with snow flurries and the temperature ranged between -9c and -15c. with winds out of the northwest at 20-26 kms per hour. I would like to thank the field observers for their great effort despite unfavourable conditions and a lack of birds. This year, a total of 41 species were recorded by 45 field observers. The average number of species observed on Dunrobin count is 51 species. The 29th Annual count, with 41 species, is the 3rd lowest record for this count- but not the lowest!!! Previous lows were recorded in 1985 (38 species) and 1999 (32 species)- both low numbers were due to inclement weather conditions. Again, many thanks for everyone who participated.

The following highlights were recorded.

New Species:  Brown Thrasher The overall total is now 110 species.

Record Highs: Previous highs are shown in parentheses followed by year.
Wild Turkey 228 ( 178 , 2007)

Other species of interest: Snowy Owl (2)  first since 1995
Northern Saw-whet Owl (1) 8th record
Bohemian Waxwing (494)

Winter Finches: Pine Grosbeak (0)
Purple Finch (0)
White-winged Crossbill (0)
Common Redpoll (0
Pine Siskin (0)
American Goldfinch (461)
Evening Grosbeak (0)

I would like to thank my wife, Laurie for preparing the wonderful post-count supper.

                                Good Birding, Bruce
