A quick look at their web sites show that West Marine, Defender Industries
and Boater's World are all no longer listing the Bruce anchor in their
online catalogues. There are some other claw type look-alikes shown, but
based on CaptnWil's testing of the Bruce back in 1998 and its lack of
holding power, I'll pass on the look-alikes.

The one big thing that CaptnWil did say as a positive on the Bruce was that
no matter how you dumped it over the side, it always set.

Another output of Will's testing was that there is no single anchor type
that is good in all conditions. Soft mud, hard sand, and rock all take
different type anchors to set and hold properly. As such, any cruising boat
is well served to be set up with multiple anchors, of differing types.

Another comment by Capt. Wil was that if the anchor had the ability to be altered
to different angles of penetration it would hold in different bottoms much better,
such as the SuperMax being adjustable from a setting for very hard bottoms to a setting
for very soft bottoms. He also liked the Fortress for this reason.
In support of this we have found that the SuperMax will get a good bit on very hard
bottoms such as shell beds and extremely hard sands in the hard bottom setting when other
anchors have a problem doing so and of course holds like the devil in the soft bottom
position in those soupy Loon Sh*t bottoms.
