Saloon! That is the correct spelling I have been using for all my 68
years (well, maybe since first grade), and is the spelling I will use
till I die.

Thanks for asking,

A "salon", a French word, is a parlor.  It is a room to gather, entertain,
or relax.

In Webster's online, saloon is a word derived from salon and can also be
used to describe a large living area, an elaborately decorated public hall,
a public cabin on a ship or the living area on a ship.

Since I have don't have a ship or a yacht, I call it a "lounge".....or if
I'm feeling avant-garde.....maybe a salon.....but being somewhat over
exposed to western movies in my younger years.....never a saloon. :>)
