What is strataglass? How pliable is it? How does it age -- ie. does it
crack, yellow, craze, cloud? We are seriously considering an enclosed
flybridge on our Albin 43, and would like to collect all the facts and
possibilities before spending the amount of money that it will take to do
the job right.

Pegy: (and all other newbies) The internet is a great place to learn about
new things. There isn't anything out there you can't find information
about. There a number of "search engines" that will point you anything in
the world.
Try: http://www.google.com/ or http://www.dogpile.com/
The only danger in doing this the amount of time you will spend on the net
instead of working on the boat. ;-) ....jd

Peggy,
We just did a full enclosure on our Albin 43, including the Sundeck.
Strataglass is just a high quality form of the isenglass (sp?) that is
supposed to be very scratch resistant & NOT yellow, craze, ect. We found a
very good canvas guy in Clear Lake who did a very good job.
He strongly reccomended the Strataglass for the very front & first side
panel on each side, so that's what we did. We used all 40 mil glass all
around & I'm very pleased. It lays very flat & is as easy to see through as
you could expect. They reccomend the Stratagalss for any panels that are
going to be rolled up a lot as the zippers are less likely to scratch, but
at $150 a sheet extra, we just couldn't go there. (ours took 12 panels) Just
FYI, we spent 5 BU's even on the entire project, using our old bimini frame,
but replacing everything else. (Sundeck has a hard top). They put in 8
smiley's all together. One other point, I like the smileys, myself. They
roll up out of the way & aren't laying or flopping around on the helm in the
way when they are open like frowns would be. They may be a little harder to
open & roll, but they are equally easier to close up. Just drop & zip! Hope
this helps!
