Broadway Center Hosts Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble

Professional Dance Master Class, Only Northwest Audition, and
Performance

Tacoma, WA - The Broadway Center will host Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH)
Ensemble's professional Dance Master Class, the only Northwest Audition
for dancers interested in becoming future members of the Ensemble, and
public performance the last week in January.  Both the master class and
auditions will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Broadway
Center for the Performing Arts Rehearsal Hall in downtown Tacoma. The
master class begins at 4:00 p.m. and the audition begins at 6:30 p.m.
Appointments are required to audition. The public performance is on
Friday, January 29,

2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pantages Theater.  Tickets are on sale now.

Building upon the success of DTH's mission to give youth in Harlem the
opportunity to study and excel in neoclassical dance, the company has
staged numerous classes and workshops across the country including
lectures, school assemblies, family classes, and more advanced training
for experienced dancers. The master class hosted by the Broadway Center
will be taught by the head of DTH's dance school, Endalyn Taylor, and
will focus on classical technique, focus and discipline.

"The master class is a rigorous exploration of classical ballet with a
concentration on the artistic and technical aspects of the dance form,"
explains Taylor. "I also leave room for individual students to apply
creativity to dance phrases. I like my classes to be hands on and for my
dancers to make choices within structure."

Registration for the DTH master class is $60 and should be reserved
through the Broadway Center Box Office. All registered master class
participants will an additional discount for tickets to the performance.
There are a maximum of 25 spaces available in the class.

Taylor will conduct the only Northwest Audition for students to attend a
six week "Masters and Mentors" intensive program at the DTH Ensemble's
New York headquarters from July 28 to August 7, 2010. Dancers
auditioning are required to have a minimum of three years of classical
ballet training. Additionally, point-shoes and a resume with full body
shot are required for intermediate and advanced levels. To make an
appointment for the auditions, RSVP to education@broadwaycenter.org or
call 253.591.5341 to reserve a time.

The public performance will feature the work of choreographers Arthur
Mitchell, Robert Garland, Keith Saunders, Lowell Smith and John Taras.
DTH was founded by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook in Harlem, New York
in 1969. Before founding DTH, Mitchell made history as the first
African-American male dancer to become a permanent member of a major
ballet company in 1955.  Shook was born in Renton, Washington and began
his career as a child actor at the Seattle Repertory Theater. At the age
of thirteen, he was encouraged to study ballet at the Cornish School of
Allied Arts. After many successes as a performer, choreographer, teacher
and writer, he founded DTH with Mitchell.

Tickets for DTH Ensemble are on sale now for $29, $39, $49, $65. Tickets
