Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsWell folks, Cinderella is well underway. We've been gone now just 2 weeks and
rest this afternoon at the Pensicola Yacht Club, planning a very early start
in the morning for a run to Fairhope AL where we'll stay a couple of days
visiting my cousin and hopefully meeting some crew. It's been a hot trip with
many sights as well as several long boreing days in the Gulf with nothing to
amuse us but a few flying fish. We did the Bend rather than an overnight on
the Gulf. Parts of that were interesting but I do not share people's
enthusiasm for Tarpon Springs! Yankeetown was interesting in its way, a LONG
ride in/out that was scenic, and we got ripped off at the so-called marina,
price-wise, without even power! Steinhatchee and Carabelle were interesting,
we jumped from one to the other missing St. Marks. An unplanned 3 night stay
in Apalachiacola was, well, very hot! Our enging overheated and we had to be
towed back to Scipio Creek Marina for repairs. First, replacing the impeller,
then both ACs went out. Mark Richter had just repaired the forward one, but
not even Mark could compete with Dutch plumbing! We'll have to redo some of
that in Ohio. At least it was Apalachiacola where the fried oysters and
scollops at Papa Joe's Oyster Bar at Scipio creek Marina are to die for! In
Panama City, or north of there in Southport we spent two nights with the new
owners of First Forty, Pete and Claire Mallory and their neighbor, Rich Gano!
It's such fun to meet people I've 'met' on these lists. By the way, I'm having
mixed success with my Verizon wireless. Great where it gets reception, but had
none in the Big Bend.
