Brightside Boot Top

I just tried to use Brightside Boot Top to repaint a stripe on the house.
Part of the area is sound sanded Sterling, part is Pettit high build primer
over the repair that is the cause of the repaint.

I have matched to Sterling colour with not much work between the Boot Top
blue and a little Brightside White.

Comes to painting ... The flow of the Boot Top is really poor over the
Sterling and bloody awful over the primer. Should I ditch this Brightside
Boot Top and is there a flow improver that will fix the problem. I only did
about a foot and quit in disgust. Will Interlux 333 fix the problem?
Perhaps Boot Top is intended to be thicker and user thinning is expected?
Or is Boot Top just wrong to do a stripe on the house?

This sounds like it may be a surface prep issue. Did you sand with medium

them 400 sandpaper. Clean with turps? Wipe with dewaxer immediately before
painting?

We  had good luck doing our bootstripe with Brightsides. I did then it a
little, but I was working on a warm summer day.

Try Penetrol. It has worked for us in a variety of situations. Specifically
we have used it with Brightside..  10-20 %

All this is in about 60 degree heat. Sanded to 220. Cleaned three times with
thinners and such. I don't think there is a source for waxes. The boat never
uses waxes and the repair did not use fiberglass. Under a lot of high build
primer is sikaflex 291, under that is CPES. Brightside white flows just
fine. There must be something different about the Boot Top.
Richard
I would ask on their web site but it is soooo slooooo and full of gliches.

Hi Richard

Saw your post about the problems that you're having with Brightside, but by now my trash bin was emptied so I couldn't go back and reread your post.

I'm a little confused... you say that you are using Brightside Boot Top. I'm not familar with that, is it a new product? I've used Brightside many times, as a boot top and for other locations and I've always found it to be so thin enough to require several coats for sufficient coverage, not too thick. Makes me wonder if this is a different product.  Rudy
