Quins and OBs,

Thanks to Frank for the update for all of us not involved in all of the summer activities.  Along those same lines, I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that one of the larger mountain 15s tournaments of the summer is just a little over two weeks away, Steamboat Cowpie Tournament (7/11).  I know that there are already other events scheduled for some of you during this weekend - Santa Barbara, near and dear to my heart, being one - but for those of you free that weekend, anxious to play rugby, and wanting to enjoy summer in the mountains, this is a great event.  I will be playing for the Misfits in the Open Division and I know that we are looking for some players.  Past experience tells me that young and old players can find all the rugby that they want at this tournament, and the toga party on Saturday night is always a blast.  I hope that we can get a strong showing up in Steamboat.

Frank, I won’t be playing in the 7s tourney this weekend, but will continue to come out on Thursdays to work on my fitness and keep my rugby skills from getting too rusty.

Hope to see all of you out on the pitch soon.

Kregg

Sometimes I forget the entire Quins community is not at training every week.  So here is an update of what has been happening on the pitch this summer.

Coach Angus Peacock has been running 7's training now since the 15's season ended back at the end of May.
We have been seeing 14-25 guys out to training 2-3 times a week in this time frame.  Pretty good for the summer, but I know we can do better.

  • We have seen some new faces join the club and some who are just in town for the summer.
  • Guys have been working on fitness, individual and team skills, field awareness, and game strategy (7's mostly)

Summer Super 7's (Wednesday nights) - the guys have been scoring a good number of tries and we currently are sitting at 7-2-1 at the half way mark of the round robin tournament.  These games are played from 6-8pm at Cranmer Park on Wednesday nights and will resume next Wednesday July 1.

Additionally, Angus is running 7's camps this summer with some guys from the Quins side as well as some other players around the country. I cannot speak too much on the program, but the Black Dragon (BD) side will be competing in the Open Qualifier this weekend at the Denver 7's.

If you have a chance please come out and cheer our teams on this Saturday up at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Thanks,
Frank

From: rhino@lists.denverharlequins.com

Guys,

Anyone who has confirmed playing this weekend should make every attempt to make it out ot training this week so we can have some what of a cohesive team strategy going into the tournament this weekend, especially if you have not been out to training at all this summer.  We are training Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 pm, Cook Park. Bug spray is optional but recommended right now (with the rain comes beautiful fields, but also the bugs).

Coach Jim Kunsman has volunteered to help us out on the sidelines this weekend and is trying to arrange his schedule this week to get out with the squad to training.

Below is the list of guys who have confirmed for Saturday. Please let me know if you want on the list or if you no longer plan on playing.  All of the BD Pool players are currently on this list, but I believe they held selections on Sunday. With injuries and BD selections this list will be quite a bit shorter.

See you all tonight!
