Speaking from 30 years of experience using Martec prop on two sailboats --
if a blade does fail to open, and it does happen occasionally, you engage
reverse, rev it a bit, then quickly shift into forward.  The martec, I
believe, has the most streamlined shape of any prop (more so then a Gori)
which appeals to racing sailors.
